A car accident at the Galveston Seawall on June 8 left one person dead and another in the hospital. The accident occurred when a red pickup truck driven by a 49-year-old man drove across five lanes of traffic. The driver was found to be on probation for a narcotics offense, and police are investigating to see if he was under the influence of narcotics or other drugs at the time of the accident. The truck hit two pedestrians standing on the seawall. One, a 62-year-old man who was in Texas visiting family, died at the scene. The other, a 48-year-old man, was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The truck drove over the seawall and landed in the sand, sustaining severe front-end damage. The driver had minor injuries.
