An accident on May 16 resulted the deaths of two 20-year-old men in Murphy. Police initially thought that the accident only involved one vehicle and occurred after the Nissan sedan that three men were in at the time swerved out of control at FM 544 and Brand Road. However, authorities now believe that another vehicle may have been involved and that road rage may be to blame for the fatal accident.
Police believe that both drivers involved in the crash were driving at high speeds and weaving in and out traffic. At one point, both the victim’s sedan and the suspect’s Mitsubishi attempted to pass each other at the same time. The vehicles got very close to one another, which prompted the Nissan driver to attempt to get away from the other car. This led to the Nissan going out of control and crashing, and police do not believe that the vehicles ever physically touched.
Witnesses of the auto accident came forward with information that led to the arrest of the 21-year-old Mitsubishi driver. That man has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and one count of accident involving injury since the third person in the Nissan survived the accident and was hospitalized in critical condition.
