Vigil Held for Man Killed in Crash

A 44-year-old Austin man was killed in a suspected DWI crash on the evening of Tuesday, June 10. The man was driving his truck on Harris Branch Parkway when another driver, a 27-year-old man, allegedly ran a red light on East Parmer Lane. He hit the side of the truck. Despite the fact that the truck’s driver was wearing a seatbelt, he was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The 27-year-old man was intoxicated, according to police. His 5-year-old son died at the hospital following the car crash, and another passenger is still recovering. Though the accident is still being investigated, the man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and murder. Reports did not indicate what his blood alcohol content was at the time of the crash. Family and friends have set up a fund to cover funeral expenses for the man who was killed.

For those who have lost a loved one due to another person’s negligence, improper driving or intoxication, financial and emotional duress can complicate the grieving process and make it extremely difficult to go on with everyday tasks following the incident. In this case, a fund was set up for funeral costs, but crowdsourcing is not always successful.

Wrongful Death Settlements

In these instances, it may be helpful to talk to an Austin injury lawyer who has experience with pursuing a wrongful death settlement. A settlement is a sum of money sought from the insurance provider of the person at fault. The settlement may be used to cover medical bills that accumulated prior to death, funeral costs and other expenses. If the deceased was a family breadwinner, settlement money may also be used to support the family as they begin to recover from the loss.
